Chakra of the week: Svadisthana

DISCLAIMER: I am by no means an expert on each chakra, and I don't know everything. I have read extensively and taken an online course through a Jain instructor. This is just a general outline with a couple tips I've learned from experience. Please do your own research on top of this, because our practices are all different. What is the Svadhisthana Chakra? As before: A chakra is a sphere of energy in our astral body that is connected to a place in our physical body. The Svadhisthana Chakra is located about four fingers below the belly button. It's commonly referred to as the sacral chakra because it is located near the sacrum. The symbol is a circle with a half moon surrounded by six lotus petals. As with Muladhara, the petals can be interpreted to mean different things. Please do your own research.   Element The Element surrounding the Svadhisthana Chakra is water. Water is fluid and has movement. It can also carry other elements with it. When I visualize this ch...

Chakra of the week: Muladhara

DISCLAIMER: I am by no means an expert on each chakra, and I don't know everything. I have read extensively and taken an online course through a Jain instructor. This is just a general outline with a couple tips I've learned from experience. Please do your own research on top of this, because our practices are all different. What is the Muladhara Chakra? First things first: A chakra is a sphere of energy in our astral body that is connected to a place in our physical body. The Muladhara Chakra is located at the base of the spine. Imagine sitting on a chair and feeling the bones that settle on the seat. That's the Muladhara Chakra. It is also called the root chakra, because it is the lowest one. The symbol is a triangle pointing down inside a square surrounded by a circle. This is surrounded by four lotus petals. The meaning of the petals differs slightly depending on who you ask.   Element The Element surrounding the Muladhara Chakra is Earth. Earth is solid and supportive....

A Place of Spiritual Healing

My whole life I've struggled with anxiety. I had endless energy as a child and was reprimanded for not containing it. The religious upbringing I had frowned on mental health diagnoses, so it wasn't until I was about a decade into adulthood that I realized I actually had anxiety. It explained so much. I finally had a context for the stress I put upon myself and the ceaseless energy I had in trying to solve problems that probably didn't even exist in many cases. I'm a teacher, too. I was a teacher in the United States for 6 years, and while I could talk at length about my experience, all I want to say right now is that it made my anxiety spin out of control. That and other circumstances I was dealing with outside of the school system. During this time, I still did not have the context that I did in fact HAVE ANXIETY.   A few years ago I panicked and left the United States.  I had been in such a high-stress place for so long that I didn't know that was what I was doi...

Welcome to the Mindful Rainbow

Welcome to the Mindful Rainbow! The name of this blog comes from two things: Mindfulness (of course) and the Chakras.  As a person who has dealt with anxiety her whole life, I find non-sectarian mindfulness and Chakra balancing work to be very helpful tools. What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is gently refocusing your awareness to the present moment. It's very easy to get lost in everyday anxieties, and by using mindfulness techniques we are showing kindness to ourselves to get through them. Mindfulness is hard, and it is not easy to do when we are in high stress situations. It takes work and patience.   What are Chakras? Chakras are energy centers in our body, located on the astral plane. There are seven commonly recognized Chakras that correspond with the seven colors of the rainbow. They work throughout our astral body and when they are out of balance, over or under-active, we feel it in our physical body. Work can be done to balance them in a few ways including, but not excl...
